Door Installation The first thing guests see and the last line against New England weather.
MA door contractor for entry doors, patio doors, sliding doors, French doors, storm doors, and interior doors. Therma-Tru, Andersen, Pella, Masonite. Energy Star certified. Proper weatherstripping, flashing, and hardware. Front door replacement is the #1 curb appeal upgrade in real estate.
Every Home Has Two First Impressions — and One of Them Is the Front Door
Real estate agents know this: a freshly painted front door in a bold color sells houses faster. The front door is the focal point of your facade, the thing buyers photograph, the detail that signals whether a home is cared for or neglected. A warped, drafty, faded entry door makes a $500,000 house look like it needs work.
Beyond curb appeal, doors are the biggest air leak in most homes. Old doors with failed weatherstripping let cold air pour in all winter — you can feel it standing nearby. A properly insulated modern entry door with compression weatherstripping eliminates that entirely. Patio doors that don’t slide anymore, interior doors that don’t latch, storm doors with cracked glass — they all affect how your home feels and functions daily.
At JM All-Pro Services, we install all types of residential doors across Massachusetts — entry, patio, sliding, French, storm, interior, fire-rated. Therma-Tru, Andersen, Pella, Masonite products. Proper flashing, weatherstripping, hardware, and trim finishing. Most single-door replacements complete in one day.

Door Materials — Choosing the Right One
Each material has tradeoffs for durability, insulation, aesthetics, and cost. The right material depends on which door in the house and what matters most to you:
Fiberglass Entry
Best overall choice for MA. Won’t warp, dent, or rot. Paintable, stainable (wood grain). Excellent insulation. Therma-Tru benchmark.
Steel Entry
Most affordable. Dent-prone but extremely secure. Fire-rated standard. Best for garage-to-house and utility doors. Can rust if paint damaged.
Solid Wood
Premium aesthetics. Natural beauty. Can warp in MA humidity swings. Requires periodic refinishing. Best for covered entries or interior.
Vinyl / Composite
Patio and sliding doors. Zero maintenance. Won’t rot or need painting. Limited color options. Pella, Andersen standard frames.
Aluminum Frame
Storm doors and some patio doors. Lightweight, corrosion-resistant. Thermal break versions prevent cold transfer. Larson, Andersen storm.
Doors Matter More Than You Think
Front door replacement consistently ranks as the #1 ROI exterior project in real estate — ahead of siding, roofing, and windows. And energy-wise, old doors with failed weatherstripping are among the largest air leaks in any home:

What Affects Door Installation Cost
Door cost varies based on type, material, and complexity. These factors are biggest:
Door Type
Interior hollow-core cheapest. Entry doors mid. French doors and patio doors premium.
Material
Steel cheapest. Fiberglass mid-premium. Solid wood highest cost. Each has maintenance tradeoffs.
Sidelights + Transom
Entry door alone cheapest. Adding sidelights and/or transom window significantly increases cost and beauty.
Glass Options
Solid panel cheapest. Decorative glass, privacy glass, or Low-E glass add cost but add value.
Hardware Grade
Builder-grade lockset cheapest. Smart locks, multi-point locking, premium finishes add cost.
Frame Condition
Existing frame in good shape: simple swap. Rotted or damaged frame: reframing adds labor.
Custom Sizing
Standard sizes stocked and affordable. Non-standard sizes require custom orders with longer lead times.
Quantity Discount
Whole-house interior door replacement packages priced better per door than singles.

Door Installation FAQs
How much does a new front door cost installed?
Entry door cost varies by material, style, and configuration. A standard fiberglass entry door without sidelights is the most common replacement. Adding sidelights or a transom window increases cost significantly but transforms the entry. Steel doors are most affordable. Solid wood is most expensive. Glass options, hardware grade, and frame condition all factor in. Written estimates after measure visit.
How long does door installation take?
Most single-door replacements complete in one day — typically 4-6 hours from removal to finished. Patio doors and French doors may take a full day. Whole-house interior door packages (8-12 doors) take 2-3 days. Custom-sized doors have 2-6 week manufacturing lead times before install day.
Should I get fiberglass or steel for my front door?
Fiberglass is the better choice for most MA front doors. It won’t dent like steel, won’t warp like wood, won’t rust, insulates well, and can be stained to look like real wood grain. Steel is best for budget projects, garage-to-house doors (fire-rated), and utility doors where security matters more than aesthetics. Solid wood is premium but requires periodic refinishing and can warp in MA humidity.
Do I need a storm door?
In Massachusetts, storm doors extend the life of your entry door by protecting it from direct weather exposure. They also add insulation value and allow screen ventilation in warm months without opening the main door. Full-view storm doors (mostly glass) are most popular because they don’t hide your entry door’s appearance. Not needed if your entry is well-covered by a deep porch.
Can you replace just the door without the frame?
Sometimes — if the existing frame is in good condition, plumb, and properly weathersealed, we can install a slab-only replacement. However, most entry door replacements include the frame (pre-hung door) because the old frame typically has worn weatherstripping, settling damage, or minor rot. Pre-hung replacement provides the best seal, operation, and warranty.
What about interior doors — hollow vs solid core?
Hollow-core doors are cheap, lightweight, and provide zero sound blocking. They feel flimsy. Solid-core doors (wood composite or MDF filled) are heavier, more substantial, and block noticeably more sound between rooms. The price difference is moderate per door but meaningful across a whole house. Solid-core is worth it for bedrooms and bathrooms at minimum.
Do patio doors come in wider sizes?
Standard sliding patio doors are 6-foot wide (two 3-foot panels). 8-foot, 9-foot, and 12-foot multi-panel options available from Andersen, Pella, and Marvin. Wider doors require larger rough openings — if your existing opening is smaller, framing work is needed to enlarge. Three-panel and four-panel sliding doors maximize outdoor connection.
What about smart locks?
Smart locks (keypad, fingerprint, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi) install on most entry doors. We can install smart locks as part of any entry door replacement. Most popular: Schlage Encode, Yale Assure, August Wi-Fi. We prep the door for the specific lock model — boring pattern varies by manufacturer. Can also retrofit smart locks onto existing doors.
Is the garage-to-house door really fire-rated?
Yes — MA building code requires the door between an attached garage and the house to be minimum 20-minute fire-rated (steel construction standard), self-closing, and weatherstripped to prevent fume intrusion. This isn’t optional — it’s a life-safety code requirement. We install proper fire-rated doors with self-closing mechanisms at every garage-to-house opening.
